No offence to anyone but i'm not a big fan of 'blogs' - whoever coined that term thinking it's great should give a massive donation to Red Nose Day for inflicting so much pain on people.

This will be my first and last blog and is purely for entertainment purposes, hopefully to draw more attention to The Beardo Project.

Tuesday 27th February (Day 1)

I know it's going to be my last shave for about 5 days, maybe longer. [sigh] this could get tough.

Not that it's a big thing, i'm not trying to make it a big thing, but i've never been unshaved for longer than this for several reasons:
- it becomes very itchy and therefore irritating
- girlfriends have always moaned about them
- can't pull off the look

Monday 5th March

Nothing has changed much over the last few days so not much 'blogging' activity (still hate this term, always will). Started touching the stubble quite a lot, I don't know why. Must be a caveman thing.

Tuesday 6th March (Day 7)

I feel different. My stubble is finally becoming softer, almost quite strokable. It's a wired feeling. I think i'm becoming too attached - help!

Wednesday 7th March AM [just] - THE DAY O-BEARDO

This is the photo that started it all off - I took it on my laptop's webcam and emailed my 3 housemates (Biff, Padge & Taylor) to ask them if the beard should stay or go.

I wonder down to the dry cleaners to kill some time and get coffee & lunch. I get some dodgy looks as I walk down the high street. I've had dodgy looks from people in my time, but not these types of looks - what you looking at wired (I mutter to myself). I then realise the beardo is upsetting folk.

Padge calls me giggling:
Padge: "Have you checked your email?"
Beardo: "No i'm at the dry cleaners, why what's up - have you forwarded it to the football team?"
Padge: "No, but err, I did send it to the girls"
Beardo: "Oh dear, what did they say"
Padge: "They think you should grow it for Red Nose Day"
Beardo: "Awesome idea!"

Wednesday 7th March - PM

After speaking to Padge I head to the local coffee shop for panini and coffee.

With this charity idea buzzing around my head I decide to ask the girl behind the counter what she thought of this stupid beardo and if I should grow it more for a fund raising idea.

She says "yes, I like it". And she says she'll give me a donation. Superb!

Thursday 8th March - AM

I got up early today (11am), even though I got to bed at 6am so I could finish this stupid site. Bad mood.

I'm going back to the coffee shop - i'm going to ask the girl if she will be in a photo for this site. She's gonna think i'm odd - but frankly I am and I don't really care.

I'm sounding really resentful, I don't think I want to do this challenge anymore but it's come too far now. I can't stop.

Thursday 8th March - PM

It literally feels like the beard is taking over my face. I can actually feel it with the smallest of facial expression changes.

I'm sure the beardo is not longer than this morning. I really want to get rid of it now. It might sound as if it's easy to do this, but quite honestly it's not. Or I am weak. Either way i'm not finding it easy, so anyone donating is getting their monies worth for sure!

Housemate got home from work so we went down the pub for a few light jars. I bumped into two old female school mates, one when I turned up and the other later on (both with their fellas). Neither would kiss me on the cheek goodbye. So what's new I hear you say! Okay, one did but hesitantly so, the other outright refused.

Beardo-discrimination damn it!

Friday 9th March - PM

Looking exceptionally hideous today (click on photos for zoom in). Very tired and it shows. Needed some daylight so went for quick lunch and catch up with Julia (see photo).

Photo on right is to prove beardo length - it's getting longer I promise!!

May go for a few beers tonight - if you see me say hi and don't be afraid-o-Beardo!

Saturday 10th March

I saw this funny guy in Abberville Village today (said the celebrity chef).

John Torode also told me he is doing a celebrity Fame Academy thing next week for Comic Relief, top effort!

Ended up trimming the beard this afternoon as it's been getting out of control somewhat.

Sunday 11th March

Going to the pub to see some of the footie lads, find out how the 1st and 2nd teams got on (Wessex Rangers). I'm out at the moment due to ongoing back problems - urggghhh.

I drove down to B&Q earlier, donning my full on beardo. I think I even exaggerated my accent to make me sound more geezer-like in the shop.

I wish I turned up in a white van that would have been awesome.

Tuesday 13th March (14 days)

First day back at work. Interesting one!


Housemates have branded me Professor Bear Lowe. They think I should start reading Climbing Weekly on the tube.

Wednesday 14th March

"Guys the beardo is getting too long, it's starting to freak me (and everyone at work) out. People can't look at me straight when I talk to them, they keep looking away from me. It's like they are trying not to laugh at me or something worse."

Got home from work, housemates heading off to Arcade Fire concert, and there's a spare ticket. I said no to Padge stupidly! The beard must have been getting me down.

I was going to trim the beard this evening after some even more odd looks at work today, however my housemates have given me some serious grief so I'm not doing it.

If you're that bored you're reading this lads - I didn't trim / cut / touch the beardo, hope you're happy now. This is all your faults in the 1st place.

If anyone tells you growing a beard is nice and easy, isn't irritating, and doesn't mean you get odd looks the whole time - on the tube, walking down the street, queuing for a sandwich, etc - then they are all lying !

I challenge any young(ish) guy (or female that has enough man testosterone) to try it. Anyway it's all for charity and we have raised 83% of our target today which is absolutely excellent so thanks to everyone involved.

The beardo peaked on day 12 day I think, and that's about as cool as he got. Before that, until day 7 it was fine, then it starts itching and generally annoys you in lots of way (i.e. when you speak you feel it, when you scratch your chin you feel it, when you see your reflection you think my god what have I done to myself).

But it is on and off, you have good and bad beard days. Today was a bad one. Hey, maybe it's just me. I'm not beardist, far from it. I think now I see beardos totally differently, it's like you develop beard respect. There must be rules, unspoken ones. Opening doors, being polite, etc, kind of like a code of conduct.

Just digging in till Friday now...

Thursday 15th March

Trying to sort out dad's birthday present and get the other side of London for a haircut by 6pm. My boss has let me leave early which is a result!

8pm
Got the present, had a haircut the other side of town, got home. Nice work. Just. The girls in the hairdressers seemed to like beardo. Not sure why? This must be a good beard day!

Out with some mates this evening for a few beers, no idea where.

Friday 16th March

Received an email from Red Nose Day last night, it turns out we have reached our target 1 day early - thanks a million to everyone involved!! Absolute class.

Based on the above fact, and that the beardo was becoming uncontrollable and too long I decided to get the clippers out and trim beardo down a little before going to work. I went to work, received more positive feedback and can safely say I really don't want to get rid of him now.

Padge's birthday tomorrow - so out for a few beers, a curry organised by our mate's fiancée (Bene) and then who knows what. Padge is hating his birthday this year, not sure why.

Saturday 17th March

Driving back to Brighton to get birthday presents and cards for Dad, Padge and Taylor, plus Mother's Day stuff for Sunday.

Was out for dinner with the folks to celebrate Dad's birthday (on Monday 19th) plus Mother's Day tomorrow.

Managed to get all presents and cards earlier today, plus ordered a pair of trainers i've been after in Offspring.



Beardo to be trimmed tomorrow... I don't want to let him go now, we've become quite attached.

Sunday 18th March (19 days)

Mothers Day today, plus one other special event (for me anyway). Beardo gets trimmed.

The mere suggestion of me trimming my beardo has annoyed a lot of people I know. I guess they are more attached to it than I am (beardo weirdos)!

What must be understood though, I reiterate here, is that I WILL BE SACKED if I don't. Therefore off with that there beard !!

So you can see the beardo has finally gone.
